Zach was born and raised in rural Connecticut before moving to California for college at UC Santa Cruz. There he discovered a passion for teaching, and he completed a multiple subject credential program at San Francisco State after graduating. Previous to joining Hamlin, Zach taught in the classroom for 20 years, including 17 years at Head-Royce School in Oakland. At Head-Royce, Zach was the holder of the Anna Head Distinguished Chair for Teaching Excellence from 2017-2021, and he was awarded the Grannie J. Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching in 2022. In addition to teaching at Head-Royce, Zach mentored teachers and developed curriculum. Zach received his MS in School Leadership from Cal State East Bay in 2021.
Zach lives in Oakland with his wife Jessica and son Maurice, and they spend their free time appreciating local sports, culture, and nature.
