From the Director of Admission
Thank you for considering The Hamlin School for your child’s elementary school education. For 160 years, it has been our mission to educate girls “to meet the challenges of their time.”
As a product of a girls’ school, like my mother before me, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of an environment where educational programs are designed completely with girls in mind. Hamlin has for many years been a place where bright girls from all over the Bay Area are encouraged to be their healthy, authentic selves and where the K-8 curriculum and community reflect a strong commitment to joy, cultural humility and competency, inclusion, and civil discourse.
Hamlin is committed to admitting and supporting a diverse population of students in terms of ethnicity, culture, family structure, learning style, race, religion, sexual orientation and socio-economic range. A huge point of pride and commitment in our admissions process is that it is need-blind; students from all walks of life are admitted to the school without regard for the family’s capacity to pay full tuition. Presently, 51% of Hamlin’s students are students of color and about 25% of the student body receives financial assistance from the school. Current students and their families live in over 40 different zip codes in the Bay Area, including San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay, and Marin County.
Our students develop self-awareness, empathy, and a commitment to global awareness through the vigorous curriculum, community outreach, leadership opportunities, and various daily responsibilities required of them at school. Our girls are deeply loved, and they live and learn in a school environment known for its high support and high expectations.
