Heather Preston was born in Canada and educated in the UK. She attended an all-girls boarding school in the UK from the age of 10-17 and then completed an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of London and she has a medical degree from the University of Oxford. She trained as a molecular biologist at Harvard University and completed her Internal Medicine training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and her Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at UCSF. Heather is passionate about bringing novel treatments to patients to advance human health. She has been a healthcare venture capital investor for over two decades, most recently as a Firm Partner at TPG Biotech and subsequently as a Managing Partner at Pivotal BioVentures. She is currently a Senior Advisor to TPG and a Director of multiple biotechnology companies. She has sat on dozens of corporate boards.
Heather is committed to engaging with the broader San Francisco community and in this capacity, she is currently a Trustee of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco where she chairs the Governance Committee. She has previously served on the boards of SLS, and the SF chapter of the American Liver Foundation. She was also a Trustee of the Harlech Foundation which funded students from Harvard to attend Oxford Universities and vice versa.
Heather has a daughter, Olivia (Hamlin 2025) who has just graduated from Hamlin to attend boarding school in the UK. The Preston Family love to travel, ski, and entertain friends at home.
