Leslie was born and raised in San Francisco where she attended Hamlin (class of 1992), and in Napa Valley with her family wine production. She graduated from University High School, then went east to complete a bachelor of arts at Amberst College, and farther east for a laboratory-based masters at the University of Cambridge. Leslie then completed her medical doctorate and genetics residency at Mount Sinai in New York. She resides in Oakland where she practices clinical genetics at Kaiser Permanente (KP) Oakland Medical Center, specializing in hereditary cancer and cardiovascular genetics, and teaches within KP and as an assistant professor at the University of California, San Francisco.
Leslie directs precision medicine & genomics for Kaiser Permanente; California State-contracted Prenatal and Newborn Screening; and genetic health technology. Leslie also serves on the KP research Investigational Review Board (IRB) and chairs regional Research Quality & Compliance. Bringing a focus on equitable genomic public health (particularly CDC Tier 1 applications), bioethically responsible human subject research, and care innovation to her roles in KP, Leslie partners with primary and specialty medicine teams for transformative patient-centered design & implementation to serve 4.5 million diverse members across Northern California.
Outside of work, she enjoys food, wine, travel and staying active with her husband Bobby, daughter Aris (Head-Royce class of 2033), and son Bey (Head-Royce class of 2031). Leslie co-chairs the Advisory Council for ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists), benefitting graduate students in the sciences, and has co-chaired the Annual Fund for Head-Royce School. Leslie participates in the American College of Medical Genetics committees, most recently in Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI), and is a member of the Golden Gate Wine Society.
