Katie Abrams graduated from MIT with a B.S. in Management Science at the Sloan School of Management. Afterwards, she taught middle school math for 5 years as part of Teach for America in Newark, NJ. She was then promoted to Dean of Curriculum and Instruction and coached her school’s math department for 2 years. Most recently, Katie served for 10 years as the Director of 5-8 Math for Uncommon Schools, leading the mathematics curriculum, assessment, data analysis & response, school support, and teacher/leader professional development for 25 middle schools across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
Katie and her family relocated to the Bay Area in 2025 and she is excited to help develop the next generation of STEMinists at Hamlin. In her free time, she loves to read and exercise. She lives in Laurel Heights with her husband, Josh, their daughter, and their beloved Siberian husky, Huckleberry.
When I think about what has brought us to this moment, one feeling rises above all others: gratitude. Gratitude for the friendships formed, for the partnerships with Wanda, the leadership team, and my fellow trustees, and for the extraordinary faculty and staff who bring this school to life each day with intention, care, and heart, whether in the classroom, in the hallways, or in the quiet moments in between.
