Kavita (she/her) is a recent transplant from Andover, Massachusetts where she was a Kindergarten teacher at The Pike School for the last 20 years. She and her husband Raj (the brand new Head of School at Lick-Wilmerding High School) moved to the Bay area this summer and are enjoying exploring the area.
As a part of her teaching career of over 25 years, Kavita has worked at schools in India, Kenya, and the United States with children ranging from four to six years old. Her goal is to get to know each child well and then challenge them to move forward to the best of their abilities and skills. Kavita strives to learn and understand their personal stories and engage them in fun and engaging conversations. Her aim is always to maintain the balance between social-emotional development alongside academic skills.
As a life-long learner, Kavita values being a part of a learning community. She recently earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and has felt reenergized in implementing new ideas into her teaching practice. She enjoys working in teams and collaborating with others and thrives in an environment where teaching and learning happen simultaneously among adults. Equity, inclusion, and building community are some of her core values. Apart from teaching, she coordinated numerous initiatives to recognize and celebrate the diversity at The Pike School, including co-leading student affinity groups, presenting at the NAIS People of Color Conference (PoCC), and planning an annual cultural event to celebrate similarities and differences in the entire school community.
Kavita and Raj have two adult boys and enjoy spending time with them whenever possible. In her free time, Kavita enjoys long walks, hikes, reading, cooking, traveling, and exploring new places.
