Mark (he/him) taught at elementary, middle, and high school levels before moving to Hamlin’s senior administration team. Mark is a Google Certified Teacher and Trainer, an Apple Teacher, and a Common Sense Media ambassador who has supported schools and teachers in extending their thoughtful use of educational technology and blended learning as they explore Project Based Learning to deepen student understanding. Mark has worked in US Embassy Schools in Spain, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Britain, and the Middle East before relocating to California in 2012. He is an accredited school principal and received his B.A. (hon) and B. Ed. from Queen’s University before receiving his Master’s degree from the University of Alabama.
When not at Hamlin, Mark enjoys kitesurfing in the San Francisco Bay, riding his mountain bike around Mt. Tam, and spending time in nature (or around board games) with his family. Follow him on Twitter @markpicketts.
These trustees—my peers, colleagues, and friends—joined the board in 2019. By the end of their first year, they were navigating the early onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and faced a pivotal decision: whether to move forward with our bold and transformative campus construction project amid profound global uncertainty.
