Rena Marie (she/her) was born in Seattle, Washington, but she identifies as a Bay Area native. She has been a student in both public and independent schools, graduating from The Branson School in Ross. Raised in both San Rafael and San Francisco, she benefited from the rich diversity of the Bay Area, being raised among people from all over the world, primarily Latin America. Inspired by her upbringing, Rena Marie completed her BA in History with an emphasis in Latin America and the African Diaspora from the University of San Francisco. She is also a trained Drama Therapist, with a Masters degree in counseling psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (2007).
Rena Marie has been a dedicated educator and mentor, working with children, youth, and their families in some of the Bay Area’s most vulnerable communities since 2002. She has extensive experience working for the San Francisco Unified School District and several Bay Area non-profit organizations as a counselor and educator, allowing her to utilize her skills in various ways, including: program development; writing wellness curriculum; and leading professional development trainings for educators and mental health professionals. Her most popular workshops offered through the Seneca Family of Agencies training department are Movement, Nutrition, and Mental Health, Practicing Joy, and Vicarious Trauma Toolkit.
Rena Marie has been a performer for over 30 years and has led high-energy, packed dance classes with Rhythm & Motion since 2011. She also brings her love of dance to people outside of the studio, leading retreats both locally and globally. Rena Marie believes the arts are inherently therapeutic and can be used to bring about healing and wellness.
